Home Based Business Opportunities For Retirees

Retirement signSo you’re a retiree, or you’ve time on your hands and you’re interested in how to make some extra money in your spare time.

Then you’ve come to the right place. Because, I’ve been retired for about three years and I’d like to share with you how I go about making pretty good money in my spare time.

Perhaps you think you may not be currently in a position to start a business. Put those thoughts aside for a moment and let me show you how easy it is to get started.

Home based business opportunities for retirees are abundant on the Internet. Though there are many traps if you just go out and try your hand at the first scheme that you may find online.

It’s true to say that the internet has opened up an enormous global market that we can all profit from. However, there are far too many ‘Internet Marketing Gurus’ selling poor quality information and junk scams.

So take care, do some research and avoid the scams as I always recommend the softly softly approach before you sign up for anything that will cost you any money.

Start By Selling

If you are completely new to the notion of making money online then I highly recommend that you first start by selling small and cheap items on an auction or classified Ads site.

You can quickly and easily start your own online business using eBay, Gumtree, or some other classifieds or auction site.

BUT and it’s big but you must be prepared to make some mistakes and make some losses…..It’s all part of the learning process and there are some great lessons in making minor losses.

Enjoy The Lemons

You’ll soon discover that it’s easier to succeed with selling if you specialize with a particular product that you enjoy dealing with. In my case it’s guitars, I have the know how to spot a bargain and more importantly, I now have the know how to spot a lemon.

Yes, I’ve bought a few lemons in the early days which luckily I was able to fix up and sell on as good guitars, but it took me hours and hours of work to earn a few dollars. As I said earlier. Hey, it’s all part of the learning process and there are some great lessons in making minor losses.

When you have gained some experience and you’ve learned a few lessons using these sites you’ll feel more confident in branching out and operating your own websites.

The beauty of operating your own website is that all the profits are yours to keep and you can sell or promote any products that you lawfully wish.

Let me show you how I make some extra money using eBay, Gumtree, and my own websites:

Making Money With Ebay

MAKE MONEY SELLING ON EBAYeBay is an auction site that has changed a lot in the last few years in that most of the products sold now on eBay are brand new. Having said that there are still plenty of people buying and selling used products.

You should try to use eBay to sell off some of you own accumulated junk. Sometimes the buyer will get a fantastic bargain and other times you will get a fantastic price.

These days I tend to use eBay to source products that I then sell on Gumtree.

As a hobby, I like to deal in buying and selling guitars. Most weeks I easily make $300. Some weeks I make $600, others only $100.

This is just a pleasurable hobby for me because I love guitars. I like to acquire them, play and keep them for a few weeks, then sell them on. At any given time I may have up to 15 guitars in the house. My wife is very tolerant!

Making Money With Gumtree

gumtreeGumtree is generally intended as a local classified Ad site. However, it is possible to log onto other Gumtree international sites and buy items.

I have actually done this but eBay works far more seamlessly than Gumtree for buying international products.

Gumtree is my main site for buying and selling guitars. This is because I much prefer the guitars to be picked up by the buyers.

I just can’t be bothered to wrap and post such large items. Also it gives me the option to sell other related products at pick-up. It’s amazing to see a buyer come to pick-up a single guitar. Then to see him walk out with two guitars , or an amplifier.

There is plenty of info online which is useful to get you started with eBay and Gumtree. it’s all very straightforward and easy to learn.

Start off with buying things and then try your hand at selling.

After a few months of buying and selling you’ll be amazed at just how much sales knowledge you will have acquired.

Gumtree is a great training ground for your future Internet Marketing skills.
